Quinte West, ON: Athena Freight Services Inc. is a logistics company located in the Quinte West area. Their goal at Athena Freight is to work with other companies and assist them in their shipping departments by finding reliable transport carriers and coordinate their shipping needs. Crystal MacKinnon and Tammy Dixon came up with the idea of a logistics company in 2010 while they were deployed together on Operation ATHENA, in Kandahar, Afghanistan. They formed the company in 2016 after they both retired from the military and have recently expanded to include shipping to the USA. “Now that we are able to ship to the USA as well as the rest of the world, Athena Freight Services can truly say we are shipping worldwide,” said MacKinnon.
“Athena Freight Services is working with a new logistics program that greatly reduces shipping cost to our customers,” said Dixon. “It’s an on-line matching system that allows Athena to post a shipment and pair with the most suitable carriers within the area.” This new system allows them to find potential empty trucks with in the area for their shipments, resulting in lower shipping costs for their clients as the carriers are already in the geographical area.
Athena has collaborated with a trusted customs broker in the area, which will ensure seamless transition across the border into the USA. This is especially important for many of the manufacturers in the area that ship their goods directly to the USA.
