Trenton, ON: Donaldson by Design Hair Academy has opened its’ doors in downtown Trenton at 84 Dundas Street West. It now accepting students to learn the skills needed to go into the highly competitive hairstyling trade. “This is something that I have always wanted to do,” says Sharlene Donaldson, owner and instructor at the Academy. “The hairstyling trade has been seen as a basic service for way to long, not a professional service and I just felt it was time to bring back the professionalism in our trade and have it recognized for the skill and knowledge it deserves.”
Donaldson by Design Hair Academy is *registered as a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act. 2005. The school is a 10 month, 1500 hour program, training in both theory and practical services. As enrollment grows, the Academy will be open to the public for hairstyling services. Classes will start on the 1st of every month based on enrollment and the small classes will ensure the proper attention and training for each student. “I would encourage salons to contact me to let me know what they are looking for in a new stylist,” says Donaldson. “This will ensure we are training our students with what local salons are looking for and will help them secure employment within their field once the course is completed.”
'Ensuring employees have the skills needed to stay current in their chosen fields is becoming more of a challenge all the time for business owners,” says Suzanne Andrews, manager at the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce. “Private career colleges and other training centres continue to grow and expand their offerings throughout the province and we are very pleased to see this type of facility open up in Quinte West.”
Sharlene comes with a strong business background as she and her husband Tim also own Tim Donaldson Excavating Ltd located in Wooler, Ontario which they have been operating for the past 25 years. “It has been a lot of work getting the school ready for operation and I really need to thank my sister Sharon Taylor, along with my husband and our children Jessie-Lynn and Tyler for all the help and support they have given me,” states Donaldson. “I really want this school to make a difference and to make sure that stylists in our trade have adequate training.”
