The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations from members with an interest in serving on the Board of Directors. Members may nominate themselves or another member.
Six seats on the board are available in this coming election. Once nominations are closed the nomination committee will hold elections if necessary. Those elected will commence their service on January 1st 2019 and serve a two year term.
Who Can Serve On The Board of Directors?
Any member in good standing of the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce is eligible to appoint a representative to serve on the board of directors.
What Do Board Members Actually Do?
Those elected to serve on the board act as the guiding compass for the organization, overseeing all aspects of the board’s policies, finances and strategic vision. The directors work in tandem with the chamber manager to make important decisions that affect the long-term strength and health of the Quinte West Chamber. Sometimes directors help recruit members to support a cause, respond to a call for action or help at an event.
What’s Required of Board of Director Members?
Board Members need the ability to think big-picture, long-term, and make decisions that can be tough or unpopular. Directors need to be able to positively represent their fellow members at events, and have time to provide visible support and leadership to all board endeavors. They need to have an ear to the ground and bring issues that are affecting the Quinte West business community to the board for discussion and help plan out any action if required.
It is a commitment to serve on the board of directors, but one we believe is valuable to each member who decides to jump in. You can learn a lot from being part of the decision-making and by representing such an important and dynamic organization that makes a difference in the community they represent. There is no better way to learn about your business community than in a seat at the director’s table.
How Much Time Does It Take To Be A Director?
The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce schedules monthly board meetings and directors are expected to regularly attend which is a commitment of 1 ½ hours per meeting. The board does not usually meet in July, August or December so this equals nine board meetings per year, which take place from 11:30am to 1pm with lunch provided. Directors also sit on a couple of committees that guide and steer chamber activities and report to the board at the meetings. Depending on the committees, this can add an additional commitment of 5 to 10 hours per year.

What Is The Election Process?
Once the nomination deadline closes, the nomination committee will look at the number of open seats on the board and call an election if there are more nominations than there are available seats. An email will be sent to all members with a short bio of each person nominated. The members will select their top choices for the available seats and hit the vote button. Once the nomination committee has the results from the voting process, they will prepare a slate identifying who the officers and directors will be for the upcoming year. This will be presented to the membership for approval at the first membership meeting of the year with the new term starting immediately after.
