RE: New Diner Opens on the Highway of Heroes
Quinte West, ON: Heroes Diner has opened up in Quinte West and like the name suggests there is a definite link to our military community. The entrepreneur behind the diner is Wilber Ventura, a former member of the Canadian Forces who worked as a cook for the past 7 years. His first and only posting was here in Trenton and he released from the forces on Sept 17th to pursue a small business venture. “Owning my own business has been a dream of mine,” says Ventura, “and when an opportunity came up for a restaurant in a new plaza on the corner of Hamilton and RCAF roads I couldn’t resist.
Heroes Diner is located at 2223 Hamilton Road and is a throwback to a 50’s style jukebox soda pop diner. It aims to deliver a nostalgic atmosphere through colourful ambiance and a fun filled menu to accompany it. Great food, music, and customer service will set the tone for Quinte West's newest attraction. “I began pursuing the idea of a new restaurant last fall and really mulled over the type of restaurant I would want to open,” said Ventura. “I thought back to my early childhood and I was reminded of the Licks' franchise, which was my favourite burger and milkshake stop and I am hoping to recreate that experience here in Quinte West.
“Retired military members make great entrepreneurs,” said Quinte West Chamber of Commerce General Manager Suzanne Andrews, “and we need to do all we can to encourage them to set up their businesses in Quinte West. There is support available through Trenval, the MFRC and other local agencies. We have several businesses in Quinte West, covering a wide range of sectors that have been started by retired military members and their contribution to the local economy is significant.”
