Fawn Over Market is the latest addition to the Prince Edward County and Bay of Quinte Culinary scene. A specialty grocer in Carrying Place, Fawn Over Market was founded by Alexandra Feswick, a professional Chef who has been at the helm of notable kitchens and buzzworthy projects in Toronto and Prince Edward County.
This will mark a new food and beverage path for Feswick, who has a longstanding history as a leader within the hospitality industry, most recently as Executive Chef at the Drake Devonshire. At Fawn Over Market, Feswick’s focus is largely on overseeing the prepared food program, curating grocery offerings, interacting with customers and creating a unique experience for guests.
The market, which soft launched in September 2021, offers seasonal produce, cupboard essentials, prepared foods, catering, custom orders and will soon introduce online pre-orders and monthly in-store dinners. What sets Fawn Over Market’s offerings apart are its house made prepared foods, as well as the selection of products showcasing local purveyors.
Fawn Over Market’s selection of goods includes elevated pantry staples like Scout Canning’s sustainably harvested tinned fish and seafood, Zing pantry seasonings, coffee from indigenous owned Birch Bark and PEC roasted Cherry Bomb, Chef Matt DeMille’s Hot Maple sauce, locally made Tikka Chaat dals and curries, Almarium Sours Pomarium Renaissance® crabapple juice and Rosen’s Buns spread. Produce from local farms as well as further afield in Ontario compliment house salad dressings and croutons.
The from-scratch, prepared items, such as stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls, lasagnas, salads, baked focaccias, pizzas, loaves, brownies and more, complement the rotating daily dinner features, a complete meal serving two to four people with Chef’s choice of side dishes, from Wednesday to Sunday. Catering and custom orders are also encouraged, and Feswick hopes to bring a monthly collaborative dinner series to the store.
The market’s location in Carrying Place at the gateway to Prince Edward County, is well located for area residents as well as travelers coming to visit the region. Prior to Fawn Over Market’s opening, there weren’t any grocery stores serving the neighbourhood, let alone ones that championed local producers.
“With so many incredibly talented farmers and purveyors in the region, the community deserved to have a place to support and celebrate this,” says Feswick.
To communicate the latest offerings to guests, menus and food photos are posted daily to Instagram and Facebook, keeping customers up to date on what’s available in store.
Co-founded by Feswick’s husband Chad Sanders and friend and colleague Rachel Yeager, Fawn Over Market sees itself as a place for the neighbourhood, and prioritizes good food and service above everything else.
“We will strive to offer a unique, intuitive and customized experience for our guests. The hope is to turn the store into a thriving culinary hub within the community,” says Feswick. “Making our guests and community happy is our top priority.”
