Quinte West, ON: In 2014 Laura and Tony Tedball purchased Pine Ridge Knit and Sew, which has been in operation since 1986. They decided to get out of knitting supplies and have rebranded the business, re-opening as Groovy Threads Sewing Studio. “Creative people need selection and trying to cover knitting and sewing was impossible in our small spot,” said Laura. “I Love to sew and know so many others that do as well that are looking for a fresh, fun outlet to express themselves.”
In the new store, more space is dedicated to the machine showroom, which includes Husqvarna Viking sewing machines, sergers and embroidery machines. They also service most brands of sewing machines and sergers. Updated Lighting and shelving brightens the store and the increased fabric selection along with the addition of designer name and more doublewide bolts gives more choice. If you finish the bolt of cloth, you get 25% off your purchase and if customers want to upgrade their sewing machines within 90 days of purchase, they receive every penny toward their new one.
The improved classroom space now has better electrical and more ironing and cut stations. This will better suit the fun and interactive classes offered throughout the year. “This is a place that will foster creativity and unleash the inner designer to those that participate,” said Laura. Classes are offered for all sewists and Kids start at age 5 with hand sewing projects, weekly sewing class during the year and weeklong fashion camps during March Break and the summer. Classes like Beginner Quilting and Know Your Machine are great for beginners or those just getting back into sewing. Fun, trendy classes for the experienced sewist who wants to try something new are becoming popular and the garment and fitting classes with the only Palmer/Pletsch certified sewing instructor this side of Saskatchewan.
