Originally from Stockdale, Brianna Warr-Hunter and her husband Rowan have lived in Quinte West for 25 years. With these deep roots in the community, she is excited to open her second business here. “We started off freeze-drying for personal use but we wanted to offer these products to family, friends and the community so we opened Crunchy Canuck and now offer one-of-a-kind candies, freeze-dried products, European and American items and gifts,” explains Brianna.
At Crunchy Canuck, there are five machines with a window that allows customers to view the freeze-drying technique. They can watch the process of candy, desserts and fruit change into something else entirely. Freeze Drying is the process of freezing food items down to minus 70, then as they are slowly heated back up the moisture is removed via vacuum pump, attaching itself to the frozen drum of the machine, transforming every-day candy into an entirely new experience. “These machines and the process have inspired us to move from traditional candy to experimenting with a mix and match of different items to create treats that can only be found in our store,” said Brianna.
This family-owned business has opened its doors in Quinte West at 255 Glen Miller Rd, Unit #8 in the Riverside Plaza. With in-store pick-up and delivery, Crunchy Canuck is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
