Healthier Commutes Make for Healthier and Happier Workplaces! Take the Commuter Challenge and promote active and sustainable commuting in your workplace. This friendly competition between workplaces celebrates active and sustainable ways of getting around. In a given year, every Canadian makes an average of 2,000 car trips that are less than 3 kms in distance. These short trips can be replaced by human-powered choices such as walking, biking, skateboarding, skating, or even using public transit. In fact, riding a bicycle to destinations less than 5 kms away may be even faster than driving a car. Making the switch to an active commute saves money on gas, reduces emissions, and is a practical way to squeeze physical activity into your day.
People in Quinte West are encouraged to make a commitment to at least one sustainable commute to work from May 31 to June 6 and receive a chance to win fabulous prizes. The winner of the workplace challenge is declared at the end of the week to the workplace with the highest percentage of healthier commuters.
