The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Municipal Candidate Night for the upcoming Municipal Election on Monday October 1 at Trenton High School. This will be an excellent opportunity for residents in Quinte West to meet the councillor candidates from all the wards in Quinte West including Trenton, Sidney, Murray and Frankford.
“The Quinte West Chamber feels that All Candidate Nights are an important part of the election process as it gives everyone the opportunity to meet the candidates, ask their questions and get engaged in the election,” said Dave Fairfield, chair of the QW Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee. “There are a lot of new candidates challenging the incumbents for a seat around the council table this time and a choice between two candidates on who will be the next Mayor of Quinte West so voters will have a lot of decisions to make.” Municipal Elections in Quinte West have had low voter turn out for the past 2 elections with just 32.97 per cent in 2014 and only 27 per cent in 2010. The City has made it easy to vote with online voting and advance polls so there is no real excuse for residents not to exercise their right to vote.
The doors will open at 6pm with the councillor presentations starting at 6:30pm in the main auditorium. After the councillor candidates have completed their 2-minute platform presentations, the Mayoral Candidates will take the stage at 7:15pm. They will have a chance to introduce themselves and their election platforms and then John Spitters from Quinte Broadcasting will moderate the live debate on the relevant issues with submitted questions and those coming from the audience.
At 8:15pm immediately following the live debate there will be a meet and greet in the lobby with all the councillor candidates. All candidates will be given a table in the lobby according to the Ward they are running in and residents are invited to meet with the candidates and ask their individual questions. Because of the numbers of registered candidates this evening school board trustees will have an area set aside in the main lobby for the meet and greet but will not be making any presentations.
If you require more information on this event or if you would like to send in your question prior to the debate you can contact the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce at 613-392-7635 or manager@quintewestchamber.ca
